Twain Harte, CA — Only the charred remains of Jim and Kim Hebert´s Twain Harte home are left on the 22700 block of South Fork Road.
CDF spokesman Craig Hart says the fire at about 1:30 in the afternoon occurred at the Hebert home, and Jim who is a volunteer firefighter also responded to the blaze.
Hebert suspects that the self-cleaning oven his wife was using caused the fire. He says she put the oven in its self-cleaning mode before leaving the house to go to Sonora.
The house was about 80% damaged at an estimated cost of $250,000; Hart says a good defensible space around the home prevented the fire from spreading to the surrounding wildland.
Hebert says the oven will be examined to see if it malfunctioned.
