Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors has tentatively approved a quarter cent sales tax to go on the next ballot.
The tax was proposed as a means of closing a budget gap of more than $700,000 in the county´s fire services.
The William Berry Group recently polled residents of Tuolumne County and found that most people were in favor of some kind of tax increase for fire and sheriff services.
The Board voted 4 to 1 to conceptually approve the measure while county staff looks at possible revisions to the plan. Liz Bass was the one dissenting vote.
The board will readdress the issue next month.
