CDF Reports Weekend Structure Fires

Sonora, CA — CDF continues to warn Mother Lode residents of the importance of caution when discarding smoking materials after a fire at an East Sonora church yesterday.

CDF spokesman Craig Hart says the fire did about $5000 damage to a deck area and a wall at the New Life Family Church on Hillsdale Drive off of Mono way in Sonora.

Hart says the blaze was one of several to have been caused by carelessly discarded smoking materials this summer.

He says four CDF engines and one Sonora City engine responded to the fire just before 8:00 in the morning.

Meanwhile fire crews also responded late in the morning yesterday to a fire that did about $50,000 damage to a Big Oak Flat home on Wards Ferry Road.

Hart says crews responded to the home of Carla Holland at about 11:30. Hart says one air attack from CDF responded along with a helicopter and three engines, as well as two engines from Groveland Community Services District Fire Department and a water tender from Tuolumne County Fire Department.

Hart says the cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported in either incident.
