Sonora, CA — Authorities are warning area merchants to carefully examine any $100 bills they may receive from the public.
That after three counterfeit bills turned up at the local Wells Fargo Bank branch.
Lt. Mark Stinson with the Sonora Police says officials have no way of knowing what stores collected the bills because they were deposited through the bank´s commercial window.
Police say the bogus bills were spotted because the ink on the backs was running and smearing.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sonora Police Department.
