Saramento, CA — With the beginning of another school year, AAA of Northern California is warning motorists to exercise extra caution in school zones.
Sean Comey of AAA says children often have trouble making judgements about traffic speed and distance, and many are too preoccupied with returning to school to watch out for cars.
AAA recommends that parents teach their children about finding the safest route to school and using crosswalks.
Children should also be advised on the meaning of traffic signals and signs, and the importance of watching for cars that may be backing out of driveways and turning on red lights.
Meanwhile, drivers are advised to slow down in school and residential areas, drive with headlights on and watch for crossing guards.
