Columbia, CA — The California Department of Parks and Recreation is inviting the public out for “back to school night.”
The event is slated for tomorrow from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the old brick schoolhouse in Columbia.
Visitors will enjoy live music, schoolyard games, ice cream and classroom sessions led by costumed interpreters.
Those attending will also have the chance to ascend the building´s spiral staircase and ring the old schoolhouse bell.
The two-story brick schoolhouse is believed to be the oldest on of its kind in the state. It first opened in 1861 and was continually used until 1937.
The building was then condemned until it became part of Columbia State Park in 1945.
