Columbia, CA — Fire investigators are looking into the cause of an eight-acre vegetation fire north of Columbia this afternoon.
Crews responded to Parrots Ferry Road and Silver Springs Drive just after 3:00. Dan Dineen with CDF says the flames at one point were 15 to 20 feet high and threatening several structures and a peach orchard.
Fire fighters used retardant chemicals on one structure under construction and what appeared to be a storage building. There were also numerous homes in the vicinity around the blaze and up a hill.
Crews were swift in cutting a line between the flames and the structures, thus saving thousands of dollars in damage.
Fire fighters responded with eight engines, air attack and one bulldozer.
No injuries were reported.
