Horseshoe Fire Under Control

Sonora, CA — A large grass and vegetation fire on Highway 132 near Horseshoe Bend west of Coulterville is under control.

The size of the blaze was originally estimated at 270 acres but that figure was revised downward after GPS mapping of the area.

CDF´s Jodie Stanner says the official tally is 160 acres. She says 100% containment was achieved just before 11:30 last night.

Six CDC hand crews remain on scene conducting mop-up operations, along with 15 engines and a Department of Forestry hot-shot crew.

Three water tenders and two helicopters are also standing by. CDF says equipment will be demobilizing throughout the day, leaving two crews to patrol over night.

The fire was reportedly caused by overheated wheel bearings on a trailer wheel.

No injuries were reported.
