Sacramento, CA — Health officials say West Nile infection among the state´s horses has fallen sharply over the past week.
However, the California Department of Food and Agriculture says it´s too early to tell whether the peak of infections has been reached.
Officials say the drop in infection rates may be attributed to cooler temperatures over the past two weeks.
Experts caution that a return of warm weather could cause infection rates to rise again.
The virus has killed 149 horses statewide this year.
