Marijuana Eradication Efforts Net Record Plant Numbers

Sacramento, CA — Figures from the California Attorney General´s Office show that state and federal drug authorities have eradicated more than 1 million marijuana plants in an ongoing crackdown on growers.

The office of Bill Lockyer says the number of plants seized this year shatters the previous single-season record by more than 400,000.

This season´s take is estimated to have a street value of more than $4 billion. State officials say 58 weapons have also been seized and 22 arrests have been made.

Local authorities say about 33,000 of those plants have been taken from Tuolumne County with eradication efforts continuing.

Officials say that the previous record of 621,315 plants set in 2004 was shattered last month.

With time still left in this year´s season, authorities expect this year´s number to increase even further.
