Sonora, CA — CDF officials are still on the lookout for spot fires caused by lightning. CDF Spokesman Craig Hart says there were five fires yesterday and lightning caused three.
Hart says the first fire started at 6:00am in Rancho Calaveras and caused $800 in damage to a Ford Ranger and arson is suspected. Lightning was the cause of the second fire of the day on Lilly Gap Road in West Point.
Hart says a 1993 Ford Explorer was found burning on Priest Grade Road at Highway 120, causing $1,000 in damage. By the end of the day Hart says there were two more vegetation fires caused by lightning, one on Sheep Ranch Road, and the other in Murphys.
