More Than 100 Homes Proposed In West Calaveras

Wallace, CA — Developer John Reynen of Sacramento is hoping the Calaveras County Planning Commission will give him the go ahead to build 124 homes in Wallace.

The commission meets Thursday to consider Reynen´s request for the build out of Wallace Lake Estates.

The area was approved for development once before and a first unit was completed. However, the owner passed away and the subdivision has since been resubmitted.

This second unit consists of 145 acres, which is currently zoned for five-acre parcels.

If approved, Reynen could build his homes on 95 of those acres with the remaining land used for common areas, infrastructure and the existing Wallace Lake.

Caltrans is requesting a traffic study analyzing impacts to Camanche Parkway and Highway 12, while environmental groups are asking for a complete Environmental Impact Report. County staff members maintain there is no evidence for a full-blown EIR, especially since the development was previously approved.
