Merced, CA — Some state lawmakers say declining state support for higher education is pushing up the cost of a University of California undergraduate degree to about $100,000 .
California´s higher education system has long been a model for universities around the world, competing academically with the country´s best private universities.
But legislators say declining state funding, increasing tuition and fees, and the rising cost of living are pushing UC degrees out of reach for many students.
Legislators met today at the State Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education hearing at the University of California, Merced.
