San Andreas, CA — It was a 20-0 shut out led by the Calaveras Redskins football team in its annual match up against the Bret Harte Bullfrogs Friday night.
The two schools have been battling it out for 79 years now and this victory marks Calaveras´ 54th win and sixth in a row. This year both schools also celebrated their 100th birthdays.
In was a no score game until the end of the second quarter with a touchdown by Dustin Madsen. A successful two-point conversion put Calaveras ahead 8-0 going into the half.
Thanks to Valley Springs developer Ryan Voorhees, fans were treated to a smoky but spectacular halftime fireworks demonstration. Also, alumni spanning five decades were recognized throughout the crowd.
A scoreless third quarter led to busy fourth quarter for Calaveras.
Senior Steven Williamson scored at the beginning of the quarter. However the attempt for the extra point failed when the ball hit the uprights, bringing the score to 14-0.
And near the end of the game Ricky Chambers scored Calaveras´ third touchdown of the night rounding out the score at 20-0.
The Redskins are going to the playoffs with a 10-0 record next Friday. That game will be broadcast live on 93.5 KKBN and simulcast on the web at MyMotherLode.com.
