Caltrans extends HWY 140 temporary closure after rockslide slope work to conduct debris removal work—Caltrans Dist. 10 photo
Mariposa County, CA – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) extends the temporary closure of a section of Highway 140 in Mariposa County for additional cleanup work.
According to Caltrans, while crews have completed the slope work, due to a rockslide earlier this month, the next step is debris removal. The image box photo shows the rocks and boulders brought down during the slope work, leaving a large pile. The closure, from Bear Creek (Briceburg) to the Yosemite Cedar Lodge (Incline), runs through Friday, May 1, 2026.
Caltrans updates, “Our geotechnical staff will be reassessing the slope this week, and our construction and maintenance crews will be removing the debris and making needed highway repairs to safeguard the traveling public.”
The goal is to reopen the highway before the weekend. Motorists are asked to avoid this area and to use Highway 41 and 120 to enter Yosemite National Park.
“Caltrans top priority in this situation is the safety of the traveling public, our partner agencies, and the construction crews, all working diligently to restore the roadway as safely as possible,” stated state road officials.
