Modesto, CA — The Stanislaus County Sheriff´s Office is joining forces with Assemblyman Dave Cogdill´s office and the Modesto Police Department in an effort to educate the public on identity theft.
Authorities say identity theft and other types of fraud increase significantly over the holidays.
A recently released pamphlet is available to the public offering tips on how to protect against identity theft, and step-by-step instructions on what to do if victimized.
The pamphlet is available at Cogdill´s office, the Stanislaus County Sheriff´s Office, or online at the Stanislaus County Sheriff´s web site.
The web-site also provides an interactive test that is designed to teach members of the public how to recognize fraudulent web-sites and emails.
