Amador County, CA — Thirty-two year old Matthew Alcon of Valley Springs was shot and injured after leading Calaveras County deputies on a chase into Amador County Friday evening.
Sergeant Gary Redman of Amador said around midnight Calaveras deputies began the pursuit on the belief that Alcon was an alleged rape suspect.
The chase ensued via Pardee Dam Road across the county line. Calaveras deputies advised Alcon was shooting at them. A spike strip was set up at Buena Vista and Jackson Valley Roads.
Alcon then stopped his vehicle and tried to enter the Buena Vista Convenience Store and Bar. Redman said Alcon pointed his handgun at officers who then opened fire.
Alcon is in custody and in good condition at Sutter Roseville Hospital in Sacramento.
Bar employee Debbie Apodaca said Alcon is a regular there but didn´t seem the type to have any kind of problems to where he would go on a high-speed chase.
Redman said it does not appear that Alcon is the alleged rape suspect but the investigation is ongoing.
