Non-Resident College Students File Suit Over Tuition Issues

Sacramento, CA — The State of California is the target of a class-action lawsuit filed by non-resident college students in the state.

The complaint contends that California side -stepped federal law in 2002 by granting resident status to illegal immigrants for the purpose of giving them a break on tuition costs.

The three-year-old law saves illegal immigrant students from $10,000 to $20,000 a year at California´s public colleges including the University of California and California State University systems.

Illegal immigrant students claim they will be forced out of college if the reduced fees are repealed.

California is one of nine states to offer tuition breaks to illegal immigrants.
