Deadly Motorcycle Crash On 108

Tuolumne County, CA – A fatal crash on Highway 108 took the life of a 26-year-old man from Iowa.

The collision occurred on Friday, May 15, 2026, at an unknown time. The deceased is a 26-year-old man from Ames, Iowa, whose name is not being released pending notification of family. According to CHP spokesperson Joshua McKernan, while riding a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on the highway, east of Clarks Ford Road, the rider allowed the motorcycle to travel off the south shoulder, where it crashed into a tree.

“Due to the severity of the crash, the rider succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” relayed McKernan. “The rider was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash.”

The crash remains under investigation. Sonora Area Lieutenant Commander R. Matyshock states, “Warmer weather brings more motorcycle riders to our mountainous community. Please remember to travel at the posted speed limit, and if needed, slow down for the curves in the roadway.”

The CHP offers these safety tips for motorcyclists and other vehicle drivers:

• As the weather warms up and you take your motorcycle out for spring, it’s time to refresh more than just your ride; it’s time to reset your safety habits, too.
• After months off the road, take a few extra minutes to inspect your bike: check your tires, brakes, lights, and fluid levels, and make sure your gear still fits properly and hasn’t worn down over time. A quick pre-ride check can make all the difference.
• Drivers aren’t always expecting motorcycles, especially early in the season. Stay visible, ride defensively, and assume you haven’t been seen. Increase your following distance and be extra cautious at intersections.
• And for drivers…motorcycles are back. Take a second look before changing lanes or turning. Sharing the road saves lives.
