Carrying Torch To Support Special Olympics

Sonora, CA—The Sonora Area CHP and other local law enforcement agencies put the rubber to the road in the form of running shoes and helped escort the “Flame of Hope” torch for this year’s Special Olympics through downtown to raise money for the event.

Today (May 27) was the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics in Sonora. The start line was at the Red Church on Washington Street, and the finish line was at the Motherlode Fairgrounds. It helps to raise funds for the event and awareness for Special Olympics. CHP officials noted, “Along the route, we were met by spectators who cheered for both the athletes and us. We are so proud of the athletes from the Tuolumne County Ravens and will continue to support them as their summer events begin.”

They ended the run with a hot dog lunch and ice cream to celebrate. Also participating in the fun and memorable event were the Sonora Police Department and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office. As the torch run continues to raise funds for the Olympics, the Northern California Special Olympics has raised more than $20 million so far this year. For more information, click here.
