Calaveras County firefighters battled a 62-acre grass fire Saturday afternoon along Highway 26 and Double Springs Road near Valley Springs. That blaze was first reported at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
A CDF helicopter, plus hand crews and five CDF fire engines were assisted by firefighters from Foothill, San Andreas, Mokolumne Hill, and Jenny Lind fire departments. Fire officials say cause of that blaze is undetermined so far.
Then, a fire Saturday night by Lake Tulloch blackened 1 acre of oak woodland. That blaze reported around 8 p.m. Fire officials say cause was arson.
