Strong Turnout For 57th Annual Father’s Day Fly-in

Columbia, CA — A community tradition, the annual Father’s Day Fly-in was held on Saturday at the Columbia Airport.

Tuolumne County Airport Manager Tonya Scheftner reports that around 5,000 people were in attendance, nearly 50 classic cars, and over 25 vendors.

Scheftner adds, “People flew from far and wide throughout California to enjoy the cool weather and even cooler planes! The demonstration acts did not disappoint – starting out with a memorable Missing Man Formation; we had 16 pilots and aircraft demonstrating their skills flying in formation above the skies of Columbia in aircraft including Texas AT-6s, T-34 Mentors, a Yak-52, and Biplanes.”

The national anthem was performed by Mariposa County Fair Rodeo Queen Rayna Rogers and Rodeo Junior Princess Bobbie Persson.

Another highlight was legendary pilot Julie Clark flying her T-34 Mentor “Free Spirit”.

The announcers were Star 92.7’s Mark Grauer and aviators Joe Sobczak and Hal Cunningham. Several volunteers also played key roles in putting on the community event.

It started with a pancake breakfast during the seven o’clock hour, and the Fly-in spanned from 10 am – 3 pm.
