It´s called the Calcutta, and it´s a precursor to Saturday´s Rodeo calf scramble.
“Calcutta is an auction of teams, and a businessman´s calf scramble. We raise seven or eight thousand dollars for the scholarship fund from this event,” says Tuolumne County Sheriff Posseman Ty Wivell.
The raucous event took place at the Sheriff´s Posse Grounds in Jamestown last night.
It´s all part of the annual Mother Lode Round-Up, Wivell says.
“It´s a big event, makes your heart pound good when you waltz these teams around. It´s a lot of fun.”
