Security camera image of gas can allegedly used by the suspects—Photo Ruth Brown
East Sonora, CA – Vandals hit Sierra Repertory Theatre (SRT) in East Sonora earlier this week, allegedly allowing gas to spill around the theatre, which could have caused a fire.
On Monday, June 29, 2026, around midnight, the three suspects reportedly cut the gas line to an SRT company van they had accessed through a patio. The gas then spilled all around the theatre.
“Mostly, this was a dangerous fire starter and could have potentially been a disaster!” stated Ruth Brown, SRT’s managing director.
It is unclear if the suspects were trying to steal the van’s gas, but one of the security cameras shows they had a gas can. Another picture shows a white car parked behind the Chinese restaurant in the Junction Shopping Center on Mono Way, believed to be the suspect’s vehicle. Brown says investigators are working on getting the sedan’s license plate number. Anyone who may recognize the suspects in the image box pictures is asked to contact the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office at 209-533-5855.
