A number of reasons were cited for the rising cost of gasoline, in today´s meeting of the Assembly Transportation Committee with the Select Committee on Gasoline Competition, Marketing, and Pricing.
A primary reason stated was refinery maintenence shutdowns, which can lead to higher prices. Officials asked oil industry representatives today to coordinate maintenence cycles, which might ease the increasing prices at the pump.
A number of officials spoke at Thursday´s meeting, including California Attorney General Bill Lockyer, economics professor Frank Wolak from Stanford University, and representatives from the California Air Resources Board and the California Energy Commission.
Another such hearing is scheduled for late April.
