Published Jul 20, 2026 7:56 am

Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Council will meet in regular session at 5 pm today.

The meeting will feature a presentation by Pioneer Community Energy about its planned launch in 2027. It will be an alternative to purchasing electricity straight through PG&E.

Meeting documents note that Pioneer and the City of Sonora began conversations about the benefits of community choice aggregation (CCA) beginning in 2024. Pioneer submitted its Implementation Plan and Statement of Intent to the California Public Utilities Commission on March 11, 2025, and the plan was approved on June 9, 2025, for an October 2027 launch date. Company officials will provide the latest information on the planning efforts.

There will also be quarterly reports delivered by the Administrative Services Department, Community Development Department, Fire Department, and the Public Works Department. The meeting is open to the public.

The 5 pm meeting is open to the public.
