Calaveras County Unified School district is working on cutting about two million dollars from their budget, without laying off teachers.
Jim Frost is the superintendent there… and says they´re doing everything they can to keep the kids from noticing the cuts.
“We´re trying to keep the cuts as far away from the classroom as possible. We´re probably going to do less in transportation services, we´re probably going to do less classroom support as far as aide time,” says superintendent Frost.
And Frost adds while Bret Harte Union School District is considering a fee for student transportation…
“That´s difficult for us, because you can´t charge special ed students, you can´t charge kids with free and reduced lunch, and that´s a big part of our ridership.”
