Second Weekend In August Events And Cancellations

It is the second weekend in August, and there are a few events planned for August 8^th and 9^th, 2026.

First, the Twain Harte Mountain Air Market Manager, Peitra, says “Due to poor air quality and the heat we will be cancelling the Twain Harte Mountain Air Market for Thursday, August 6th. We hope to see you all on Thursday, August 13th for our last market of the season.” The Angels Camp Farmers Market has also decided to cancel this Friday night’s Farmers Market.

Murphys Creek Theater will perform What the Constitution Means to Me, opening night is this Friday with a preview night tonight, Thursday, August 6, benefitting the League of Women Voters of the MotherLode. Performances will continue through August 30th as detailed here.

Friday is Movie Night in at the Tuolumne Branch Library hosted by Tuolumne Parks and Recreation District. This Friday the movie has changed from Toy Story to The Land of Sometimes at 8:30 PM with free admission supported by concession stand sales, bench seating is available, or bring your beach chairs and blankets for the grass seating area. Murphys Community Park is hosting Two Hoots & A Holler at its First Friday Concert. Event organizers invite visitors to bring your friends, family and community spirit as detailed here.

Aronos Club is hosting a “My Kids Don’t Want This Stuff” sale to benefit the Clubhouse and its community activities. Organizers say “The memories stay… the stuff can go!” The indoor sale of treasures someone else will cherish will include crystal, China, silver, collectibles, antiques, quality home decor, keepsakes and more on Saturday from 8 AM – 3 PM, and Sunday 8 AM to 1 PM.

Saturday evening at the Mother Lode fairgrounds help support Clayton Radovich and his family as he fights Leukemia. There will be a raffle, silent auction, and live auction with dinner and ice cream. Tickets are available here.

The 50th Annual Pinecrest Run will take place on Sunday morning at Pinecrest Lake. Hosted by Pinecrest Expedition Academy, at the the first beach area, the annual event of outdoor recreation and celebration serves as an important fundraiser supporting the school’s project-based academic program, outdoor education opportunities, winter sports and student experiences. Registration and race number pickup will open at 7:30 AM, the family-friendly fun run will start at 8:30 AM, the traditional five-mile race starts at 9 AM. As the winds shift Big Trees in Calaveras has been above the smoke and on Saturday night Doc Nancy plans to share scientific information and tell stories as everyone gazes at the night sky. Meet at the Scenic Overlook in the park, a few miles past the Visitor Center. Bring a chair or blanket, details are in the event listing.

In Sonora, it is Second Saturday along Washington Street. Participating galleries, restaurants, and shops will offer a blend of art, live music performers, and demonstrations. Look for Second Saturday Art Night banners up and down Washington Street and the free dance party in Courthouse Park.

The second Saturday of the month is also Gold Rush Days at Columbia State Historic Park from 1 – 4 PM. The event opens special exhibits, stores, and residences not regularly open to the public. Throughout town, you will discover park docents in period attire interpreting what it looked, felt, and sounded like during the California Gold Rush. If you’re lucky, the gambling table will be set up on the boardwalk for everyone to try their hand at betting against a mining camp gambler.

Saturday is the Keep Calaveras Clean Park Clean-up Event. Public Works will provide trash grabbers, trash bags, gloves, water and garbage collection. Sign up details are in the event listing here.

Twain Harte Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Summer Concert Series at Eproson Park. Held every Saturday night from 6 – 8 PM, this Saturday Breakaway will perform, view the event listing here for the list of musicians featured this season. Fresh produce, handmade goods, unique treasures from local farmers, artisans, and young entrepreneurs will be found Saturday morning at the Sonora Farmers Market, open from 7:30 – 11 AM.

Sierra Repertory Theater is performing “Great Balls of Fire” a celebration of rock’s earliest days held at the East Sonora location through August 9.

Off the Wall Youth Theatre Troup is performing “The Jungle Book” in San Andreas. Performances will continue through August 9.

Calaveras County Arts Council’s Music in the Parks Summer Concert Series is at a different park each week. August 12 is Teri Wilson Blues Band at The Square in Copperopolis. Due to the Gann Fire the Penetrators Groove Band was rescheduled to August 26 from 6:30 – 8 PM at Murphys Park.

On Wednesday August 5 at the West Side Memorial Park in downtown Tuolumne City the market opens at 5 PM with classic rock music by Spin Out and a Car Show from 6 PM – 8 PM.
