Mother Lode Heat Advisory This Weekend

The Heat Advisory that has been issued for the Mariposa County foothills and the central San Joaquin Valley, will remain in effect until 8 PM Sunday night. Additionally, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Mother Lode and the northern San Joaquin Valley from 10 AM Friday until 10 PM Sunday.

The daily afternoon high temperatures will range from 102 to 108 degrees.

The overnight lows will generally fall into the mid sixties to mid seventies.

Such hot temperatures and limited overnight relief may cause heat illnesses, especially anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.

There will be multiple days of Moderate to Major Heat Risk.

The heat is expected to peak on Saturday.

During this Heat Advisory, try to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the direct sun, and be sure to check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
