Fire on Highway 108 west of O'Byrnes Ferry Road - Tuolumne County Fire image
Sonora, CA — There were several fires that kept officials busy on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday evening, during the six o’clock hour, there was a structure fire on 9th Avenue in Jamestown. It did not spread to any nearby vegetation.
Later at 11:50 pm, the Tuolumne County Fire Department reports that a one-acre vegetation fire ignited on Highway 108 west of O’Byrnes Ferry Road. It was burning on both sides of the highway. It was contained at 12:15 am.
Early Sunday afternoon, the Kiva Fire burned two acres near Kiva Drive and Fong Drive in Copperopolis, according to CAL Fire.
A few hours later, the Flint Fire burned a 30-by-30-ft. spot of vegetation near Flint Trail and Arrowhead Street in Copperopolis.
No word yet on the causes of the various fires from the weekend.
On Sunday, some regional resources were also dispatched to the Hatchet Fire in the Springville Area of Tulare County. That incident is 606 acres with 10% containment.
The Gann Fire near Valley Springs is now 10,339 acres with 78% containment. The last areas that were under evacuation orders were allowed to return home on Saturday afternoon. Cleanup efforts are ongoing.
