Last night, the Sonora City Council unanimously decided to put the sales tax measure before the voters.
It will be a half-cent tax specific for the purposes of funding the police, fire and public works departments.
Also, it´s going to be a mail in ballot, as opposed to using polling booths, and the date is scheduled for August 31st.
It was a week and a half ago that the council voted three-to-two to hold off on the proposal pending further information about where the money would go.
An expenditure plan distributed last night says the extra money generated by the tax increase would go for personnel and equipment, as well as for additional infrastructure, training, and even parking for city departments.
Officials estimate the election will cost around $7,500.
