The California Farm Bureau Federation is challenging those new annual water fees we told you about this week.
The new charges were created last October, and took effect this year. With the fees, nearly 13-thousand permit holders started getting bills from the State Board of Equalization.
A spokesman for the Federation calls the fees “unlawfully imposed taxes”, and says they´re “unnecessary and expensive” for farmers. They vow they´ll go to court, on the grounds that constitutionally, two-thirds of the legislature must approve such fees, and the Farm Bureau says that never happened.
