A pair of burn piles got briefly out of control, on Highway 49 a mile south of Angels Camp.
Dispatchers called it an escaped debris burn, and say the fire briefly threatened a nearby cabin.
Dry and windy conditions contribued to the fire, which was extinguished shortly after the initial call.
