Bush Budget May Be Good For California

There is some good and some not so good news for California in President Bush´s budget plan sent to Congress Monday.

The $2.4 trillion budget would send more homeland security funds to urban areas and heavily populated areas with critical infrastructure that are considered at risk of attack. That could help California.

But Bush´s plan would also delete federal aid for states that jail illegal aliens who commit crimes — a program that overwhelmingly benefits California.

The budget plan also would give $15 million to fund the CalFed water program and would increase spending on highways and public transit. It also would increase the military´s and NASA´s budget and would fully fund the so-called healthy forests law passed in the wake of Southern California´s devastating wildfires.
