Sonora, CA—A 57-year-old Oakdale man was killed after the Chevrolet Silverado he was driving left La Grange Road and crashed into a metal pole and a tree.

The crash occurred late Saturday night, August 22, or early Sunday morning, August 23, on northbound La Grange Road south of Avenida Lugo North. The CHP said the driver was traveling at an unknown speed when he failed to negotiate a curve, causing the Silverado to leave the roadway. Sonora Area CHP officers were notified of the crash at approximately 11:19 a.m. Sunday and were told the driver had died from his injuries. The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor. The driver’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it is asked to contact the Sonora Area CHP office at (209) 984-3944 and speak with Officer Jorgensen. Sonora Area CHP Commander Lieutenant Matyschock reminded motorists to be mindful of their speed and wear seat belts.

“It is unfortunate that tragedies like this occur on our roadways. We would like to remind motorists to be mindful of your speed, and please wear your seatbelt. Seatbelts make a difference if you are involved in a crash,” Matyschock said.
