He escaped from the Sierra Conservation Center almost 40 years ago… and now he´s being escorted back to California.
Donald Johnson was 23 in 1967, when he walked away from a warehouse job outside the walls of the O´Byrnes Ferry Road prison. Now, at age 60, he´s headed to the west Tuolumne County prison.
Johnson had worked for 21 years at Pilot Chemical in Houston Texas. He hadn´t changed his name or his social security number. His boss and his wife both had trouble believing the story, although photos and fingerprints confirmed it.
Johnson had been serving a sentence of one-to-fifteen years for second-degree burglary in Riverside County. Apparently, detectives in Texas discovered his past when he bought a travel trailer in the Houston area.
