The body of a missing cross-country skier who was buried in a New Year´s Day avalanche has been found in the Sierra.
KCRA TV reports some of the man´s clothing and gear were found in shallow snow. The search area had been narrowed to an area about the size of a football field before the body of the Pacific Grove, California man was discovered around 10-30 this morning.
The man´s name has not been released.
Another man who was skiing with him managed to escape and spent two days in blizzard conditions until he could get out and call for help.
The avalanche occurred in a remote area near Castle Peak, a popular back country ski area west of Truckee. Nevada County sheriff´s deputies say the search was complicated by two to three feet of new snow since Thursday´s avalanche in a remote, rugged area west of Truckee.
