A local hero is getting some national recognition.
35-year-old Taj Matney of Sonora is among a group of people who will receive Carnegie Medals from the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission.
Matney is known for saving a man from a burning truck after a crash on Highway 108 near Knights Ferry in 2003.
The Carnegie Medal comes with a $3500 prize. Matney reportedly plans to give some to charity, and use the rest for his family.
