The shortage of fresh tomatoes should ease in the coming week, as shipments are expected to arrive from Florida.
Produce brokers say they expect Florida tomatoes to reach Northern California markets starting Sunday.
Wholesale prices have already dropped from a high of $45 per box to just over $12 a box.
The shortage was caused by poor tomato-growing weather in Florida, California, and Mexico, where tomatoes originate this time of year.
