The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Mother Lode, and the Northern Sierra Nevada through 10 AM Friday. A Red Flag Warning is also in effect for the central Sierra Nevada through 10 PM Friday.
Winds of fifteen to twenty-five mph are forecast with gusts ranging from twenty-five to forty-five mph. There is a seventy to eighty percent probability of gusts exceeding forty mph today and a fort to sixty percent probability of gusts exceeding forty mph in the Central Sierra on Friday.
Daytime humidity of ten to twenty-five percent is likely, with single digits possible and very poor overnight recoveries.
Any fires that develop will spread rapidly.
Fortunately, there is no threat of thunderstorms. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the field of this Red Flag Warning.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
