A California Department of Forestry firefighter died Sunday from injuries sustained in an accident while fighting a wildfire near Groveland.
Few details are known at this time, but the fallen firefighter is believed to be one of seven firefighters injured Sunday afternoon fighting the “Tuolumne Fire” in the Tuolumne River Canyon. Authorities have not yet released the firefighter´s name.
The CDF firefighters were assisting Stanislaus National Forest fire crews battling the 500 acre blaze on forest service land off Highway 120 and Cherry Lake Road near Yosemite National Park.
Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit CDF Fire Chief Fred McVay has ordered all flags at fire stations and facilities throughout the area to fly the flag at half-staff honoring the fallen firefighter.
