Summerville defeated Bret Harte 49-19 Friday night in Angels Camp.

Senior night opened with a bang for the Bullfrogs, coming away with an opening kickoff recovery. A quick Summerville penalty gave the Bullfrogs early momentum that quickly was wiped away by a JT Oliva pick-six a few plays later that opened the game’s scoring. The next Bret Harte drive ended in a very short punt that gave the Bears an outstanding field position that was capped by a short-yardage Cort Leslie touchdown run. The Bears would quickly get the ball and score again on a long Karter Lea touchdown run dragging multiple defenders into the end zone. Late in the opening quarter, Bret Harte stopped the bleeding with a 97-yard scoop-and-score fumble recovery by Josiah Hodson to start his big night. The next kickoff was then recovered by Hodson, giving Bret Harte excellent field position to open the second quarter. However, just like the opening drive, Summerville would intercept the Bullfrog pass with Karter Lea, this time coming away with the turnover for the Bears. Summerville then wasted most of the second quarter on a long drive that ended in another short-yardage touchdown run, this time by Evan Roberson. The very next play, Summerville forced the 3rd Bullfrog turnover of the first half to set up a walk-in touchdown reception for Trevor Gault. Bret Harte started a very good drive, spearheaded by multiple strong Hodson runs, but ran out of time and elected to try a long 57-yard field goal that came up well short with the halftime advantage for the Bears at 35-6.

The second half opening was an exact mirror of the first half, with Summerville recovering the opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter. This time, Bret Harte wiped away the recovery after a Marcus Kelley scoop-and-score touchdown went the other way to bring the score to 35-12. The 3rd quarter would end with 2 more Summerville scores, the first being a quick answer from a Cort Leslie pass to JT Oliva for a touchdown reception. Summerville then finished their scoring with Trevor Gault’s second touchdown reception of the night to end the 3rd quarter up 49-12. Bret Harte did not go away quietly after a Trevor Plowman bomb found the hands of Henley Speyer for a long touchdown reception, capping the scoring at 49-19. Summerville wasted away the final 10 minutes of the clock with a long drive that ended with no time remaining at the Bullfrog 10-yard line.
