A Ponderosa hills couple were awakened around 11 p.m. last night to flames and smoke in their home.
Tuolumne County fire spokesman Craig Hart says when firefighters arrived they found the garage of Charles and Sheryl Townsend´s home on Skyline Road fully engulfed in flames.
The couple got out safely as the fire burnt into the home. The fire also spread into the surrounding grass and brush but was stopped by firefighters. They also were about to protect nearby structures and other homes in the area.
Hart says the blaze did upwards of $200,000 damage to the home. Cause of the fire is being investigated this morning.
