Officials have released the name of a Jamestown teenage driver who was hurt after losing control of his sportscar on Jacksonville Road near Stent Thursday afternoon.
The CHP says 17-year-old Scott Shield was northbound on Jacksonville Road, just south of the Whites Bridge, rounding a bend, and passing a slower vehicle by crossing the double yellow lines when another vehicle appraoched in the southbound lane.
The CHP says the other vehicles moved to avoid a collision and that´s when Shield lost control of his 1971 Corvette, drove off the side of the road and went 150 feet down the embankment.
Emergency units from Groveland, Twain Harte and Columbia College responded to assist area fire crews in a rope rescue operation to bring Sheild up the steep embankment.
