Sonora School Bus Rear-Ended On Highway

Fifty-four Sonora Union High School District students aboard a school bus escaped serious injury after a vehicle rear ended their bus on Highway 108 at Via Esta Drive yesterday afternoon.

The CHP reports the bus was stopped well off the roadway. Traffic had slowed in the area but the driver of the Jeep Cherokee 47 year-old Judy Tinnisdresen of Sonora, didn´t see the stopped traffic ahead.

Investigating CHP officers say the woman pulled onto the eastbound shoulder of the highway, passed two stopped vehicles, hitting the rear corner of the school bus.

The impact sent the Jeep into a tree. CHP spokesman Tom Wills says Tinnisdresen was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center, then later airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center with serious internal injuries.

Four students at the rear of the bus complained of pain following the crash but did not go to the hospital.

All the students were transferred onto another school bus and taken to the stops.
