The people who run the state´s power grid are urging Californians to cut back on their electricity usage today.
Because of soaring temperatures expected across the state again today, the Independent System Operator has issued a “power watch” for the day.
The ISO is asking that Californians reduce their power consumption through Wednesday – especially during the peak demand hours of 4to 6 p.m.
Demand for electricity across the state may set a new record today – surpassing the one-day record set less than three weeks ago.
Officials say despite the increased demand, it´s unlikely there will be any blackouts like the ones in 2001. Since then, transmission lines have been improved and more power plants have been built.
