Stanislaus County Prosecutor Upbraided In Grand Jury Report

A grand jury is recommending that the district attorney in Stanislaus County be publicly rebuked for making threatening remarks about two newspaper reporters who were investigating how he used his government credit card.

The investigative panel said in a report issued today that District Attorney Brazelton committed nine acts of willful misconduct and violated the county´s anti-violence policy. One of the allegations outlined in the report says Brazelton

approached an employee in his office, drew a gun and said, “This is what I would like to give that reporter.”

The comment came as two Modesto Bee reporters were looking into the spending practices of county officials. On another occasion, the DA reportedly pointed his finger in a gunslinging motion and made a hostile remark about one of the journalists.

Reached at home Friday night, Brazelton refused to comment on the report. His office has been in the spotlight for the last year while prosecuting Scott Peterson for the murder of his pregnant wife and unborn child.
