California´s public universities score high on a national list ranking colleges based on the number of minorities receiving bachelor´s degrees.
Both UC Berkeley and UCLA rank at the top of “Top 100” survey conducted each year by “Black Issues in Higher Education,” an academic journal.
The ranking includes the number of degrees conferred to African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and American Indians for the 2001-2002 academic year.
When African-American and Latino students are broken out separately, California´s rankings drop. Those two groups have historically been under-represented at California´s most selective public campuses.
