Lawyers for sick hemophiliacs have filed a suit against Bayer Corporation and other companies, claiming they knowingly sold blood contaminated with HIV and hepatitis C.
The suit, filed in San Francisco federal court, seeks class action status on behalf of thousands of hemophiliacs from outside the U.S. The suit alleges the companies conspired to sell blood-clotting products that were manufactured using blood from sick, high-risk donors and continued distributing them abroad in 1984 and 1985. That was shortly after the companies stopped selling them in the U.S. because of the known risk of HIV and hepatitis transmission.
No comment yet from any of the companies named in the suit
