Some details are now being released on that fiery head-on collision yesterday morning that claimed two lives. Authorities are still working to positively identify both drivers.
The CHP says a Nissan pickup believed driven by a 54-year-old Murphys man was attempting to pass a car westbound over the double-center line of Highway 4.
When the Nissan crested a hill it collided head-on with an eastbound Ford pickup driven by a 48 year-old Denair man. Both trucks exploded into flames upon impact. The trucks were fully engulfed in flames when fire units arrived at the scene just before 7 a.m.
Positive ID of both drivers from the Stanislaus County Coroners Office is pending.
The Highway, east of Dunton Road, was closed for about four hours.
